Climate Finance Hub
T
he Climate Finance Hub (CFH) is a climate finance think tank based at Makerere University in Uganda. It is housed in the Makerere University Centre for Climate Change Research Innovations (MUCCRI). The CFH is established under a collaborative framework of the Least Developed Countries Universities Consortium on Climate Change (LUCCC), through the UNI-LEAD project that supports capacity-building in several LDCs by establishing regional think tanks, striving to operationalize them and build their capacity, and strengthening networking among these think tanks and LDC universities. The CFH is also being operationalized through a collaborative arrangement with and support from the Climate Finance Unit (CFU) in the Ministry of Finance Planning and Economic Development (MoFPED), which is the National Focal Point (NFP) for GEF, GCF and AF; and the Climate Change Department in the Ministry of Water and Environment which is the NFP for UNFCCC. The CFH is supporting efforts by the Ministry of Finance Planning and Economic Development (MoFPED) to capacitate government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and local governments to access and utlise climate finance. CFH is also worksing with MoFPED to develop a climate finace tracking tool, an important instrument designed to monitor, track, and report the flow of financial resources allocated for climate change activities in Uganda. The purpose of such a tool is to ensure the effective and transparent use of climate finance i.e. that financial resources for climate action are effectively mobilized, allocated, and used, contributing to local and global efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change.
